I find that I feel better and able to lose weight when I lay off the carbs. That said, they are cheap and sometimes must be relied upon, especially for growing boys! I am just adding a variety of frugal meal ideas, and especially those that can be made from pantry storage, here for reference.
Pancakes topped with apples fried in butter and bit of brown sugar (or bananas carmelized in butter --no sugar needed)
breakfast muffins with whole grains and honeyed milk (made with warmed powder milk)
smoothies with frozen fruit
hot rice cereal (leftover rice, milk, maple syrup or sugar, fruit and/or nuts)
pumpkin oatmeal
fresh biscuits and gravy with scrambled egg
fried potatoes and onions and bits of bacon with scrambled eggs
Farmers Scramble (fried diced potatoes, scrambled eggs, scant bacon or sausage, green pepper, onion, diced tomatoes topped with cheddar)
homemade yogurt with slivered almonds or walnuts, honey and banana slices
